10 Greatest WWE Super Heavyweight Wrestlers
3. Dusty Rhodes
The American Dream never looked like an athlete. Dusty was the first to admit that he carried a little more heft than most of his contemporaries - but that was all part of the appeal. The son of a plumber was the archetypal wrestling everyman, able to appeal to crowds wherever he went - he was one of you.
Rhodes’ great gift was his undeniable charisma, and on the mic he was without peer. He ranted and raved, as was the style at the time, but what he said made sense, it followed a throughline, and most importantly, it got the people on their feet.
In the ring, he had the grace and stamina of men half his size. He could brawl with Terry Funk and Harley Race, and lock up with Ric Flair, selling out arenas across the country. One of the great wrestling minds, he was a major part of WCW’s booking committee for many years, and while that had its ups and downs, his work with NXT means he’ll remain a beloved and influential figure for the next generation of WWE superstars.
