10 Greatest WWE Super Heavyweight Wrestlers
2. Andre The Giant
Andre The Giant is exhibit A in Vince McMahon’s theory that bigger is always better. For much of his WWE run, he was seriously lacking in mobility as a result of his health conditions, and was severely limited in terms of his in-ring abilities.
And yet, he remained an amazing spectacle, no matter where he went or what he did. His headline match with Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania III contains what might still be the most iconic image in all pro-wrestling, the slam heard round the world. The bout is no technical classic, but that’s hardly the point. Andre was perfectly booked as a monster, and he could draw a crowd like a few others.
In his youth, he was a rare talent, able to throw dropkicks and put on solid matches with the likes of Stan Hansen. Andre was a huge character in and out of the ring, and his hard drinking exploits are the stuff of legend.
While there have been larger wrestlers since, none of them can quite match the aura of Andre, who has the ability to convincingly play a real fairytale giant.
