10 Greatest WWE WrestleMania Gimmick Matches
7. Money In The Bank (WrestleMania 21)
Most of the Money In The Bank ladder matches could take this spot on the list, as they’re close to a guarantee of a good time, but it’s the inaugural offering that makes the cut.
Firstly, the idea was completely fresh back then, and in general WWE programming was less saturated with ladder matches. 21 also boasts probably the starriest iteration of the stipulation, with everyone involved a possible winner.
Then there are the spots. Kane and Jericho take a gnarly tumble from the ladder to the floor, and in probably the most memorable moment, Shelton Benjamin (who really should have won one of these) sprints up an angled ladder to hit a clothesline on Y2J. Equal parts frightening and amazing is Benoit’s flying headbutt from the top of a ladder - the sight is incredible, the effect it clearly has on him harrowing.
The match also proved its efficacy from the off, with Edge nabbing the briefcase and embarking on a run to the top of the card. It’s the first of many, but still the best.
