10 Heaviest Wrestlers Of All Time

7. Akebono (514lbs)

Yokozuna WWE Heavy
AJPW

Weight In KG: 233.1

Big Show's WrestleMania 21 opponent is next up.

Akebono was a legendary sumo wrestler in Japan, but also worked extensively in pro wrestling too. Generally, his weight fluctuated between the 440-500lbs mark, although he did balloon up to 514lbs for a spell. That was Akebono at his biggest, and definitely why he became an attraction in groups like All Japan, New Japan and Zero1.

The sumo star's biggest bout was a WWE exhibition vs. Show in 2005. It didn't go down too well with the core audience, presumably because nobody actually wanted to see sumo at 'Mania, but the "match" did get a lot of people talking. Vince McMahon would use that to point to it as a success.

Sadly, Akebono passed away in April 2024 after battling various health problems for years. He'd been hospitalised in 2017, and gradually got worse the longer time went on. That year, he also wrestled his final match. Akebono was never winning any 'Match Of The Year' awards, but that wasn't his purpose.

He was an attraction based on physical size.
