10 Hidden Gem WWE PG Era Matches You Need To Revisit
3. Chris Jericho Vs. Evan Bourne (Fatal 4-Way 2010)
WWE's insistence on basing every other pay-per-view on a specific match stipulation hit critical mass with Fatal 4-Way in 2010. Headlined by Sheamus, Edge, and Randy Orton challenging for John Cena's WWE Championship, it was a deeply mediocre night of action, with one modestly-positioned midcard match standing out among the rest.
This bout was established on the back of just a single episode of Raw. Bourne and Jericho wrestled that night, with the young high-flier kicking out of Y2J's Codebreaker, prompting a meltdown from the veteran, who was disqualified after striking the referee. They rematched on pay-per-view, and worked a classic heel vs. face dynamic, with Jericho at his absolutely best as a whiny bad guy.
Y2J controlled long portions of the match, stifling the younger wrestler with his vast repertoire of underhand tactics, but Bourne refused to stay down. He fought his way back into contention, countering or kicking out of every big move in Jericho's arsenal, before eventually dropping his opponent with a superplex and putting him away with his signature Shooting Star Press. A huge, star-making performance, though WWE never truly capitalised on Bourne's talents.
