10 Hidden Wrestling Jokes Everybody Missed
8. Vince McMahon Buries The Man Who Made His Existence Possible
Bruno Sammartino was the man who made Madison Square Garden.
His legendary run of sell-outs elevated the WWWF as the most robust and moneyed region within the old territory system, from which Vince McMahon Jr. was able to launch the national expansion of the WWF. Bruno is on WWE's Mount Rushmore. Bruno was also by virtually every account a saint of a man who never once forgot his unfathomably tough upbringing and how it shaped the moral code with which he lived his life and wished to shape the lives of others.
Also, he publicly questioned Vince's own grasp of ethics and was thus ribbed as a perverted geek during an XFL halftime show several years afterwards, just to pile "petty" right on f*cking top of "insolent".
Framed as a ratings grab, Vince as the owner of the XFL ordered a camera operator to enter the locker room of the Orlando Rage cheerleaders to capture what was inside. The overweight neurotic sad sack tasked with the job was called - yes! - "Bruno".
And of course, he was too nervous and bumbling to get the job done and knocked himself out on the dressing room door.
Perhaps his being called "Bruno" was just a coincidence.
But did Vince say "No, that might be perceived as being in bad taste, quite frankly"?
No chance in hell.
