10 High Profile Wrestlers With Forgotten NWA Championship Runs
3. Rob Conway
Rob Conway is best remembered as the third member of La Résistance, alongside Sylvain Grenier and René Duprée. Achieving several runs with Raw’s World Tag Team Championship, Conway was a staple of Monday Night Raw from 2003 to 2005.
He would also go on to a singles run as “The Con-Man”, a narcissistic heel sporting a tanned, shredded physique not dissimilar from Buff Bagwell in the late '90s. Despite the new look (and annoyingly catchy theme music), Conway appeared predominantly on Heat and was gone by 2007.
Five years later, after residing in the wilderness of untelevised wrestling, Conway would win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship seemingly out of nowhere by defeating Kahagas In San Antonio, Texas. The win would catapult Conway into international stardom and he would find himself in New Japan Pro Wrestling just three weeks later.
The next year would see Conway defend the gold against top stars, such as Jushin Liger, Chris Masters, and even Ricky Morton. During this period, Conway would also become the first man to hold the NWA Title and NWA Tag Team Title simultaneously. Conway held the title for 294 days before losing it Satoshi Kojima at Wrestle Kingdom 8; however, he would regain the gold from Kojima five months later and hold the gold for a further 257 days after.
