10 Highest Attended Non-WrestleMania Events In WWE History
6. WWF Tour 1985 - 50,000
In the history of WWE, there are two major boom periods: Hulkamania in the 1980s and the Attitude Era of the late 1990s. When Hulk Hogan was running wild, it seemed the promotion could trot out any card it wanted and it would draw huge as long as Hogan was promised to appear.
In August 1985, only a few months after the inaugural Wrestlemania, the World Wrestling Federation hosted an event at the Columbus Fairgrounds and claimed an attendance of 50,000 fans
Hogan, naturally, appeared in the main event and defeated Big John Studd by count-out, whilst the US Express defeated the Dream Team to retain the world tag titles. Also appearing were the usual mid-'80s WWF guys: Iron Sheik, Paul Orndorff, Tony Atlas, Don Muraco, and The Junkyard Dog.
It should be noted, however, that 50,000 was the attendance count of the Columbus Fair that day and admission to the wrestling show was free with the purchase of a $4 ticket. It's hard to say how many people attended the fair because of Hogan and his traveling circus but there's no discounting the WWF name as a draw in 1985.
