Exactly one week later, the WWF were at it again by promoting a Steel Cage match for the WWF Title between The Rock and Shane McMahon. Yes, almost 18 years ago, Shane O'Mac working in the main event slot was a big ratings draw. The proof of that is the 8.23 number his segment pulled.

Whilst it could be argued that The Rock's feud with the McMahon-Helmsley Regime was hot as hell and thus responsible, Shane deserves at least a little credit.

Also, don't forget that David Arquette had just won the WCW World Title, so there's a chance wrestling fans wondered whether the WWF might follow suit and try something similarly quirky with Shane. They didn't, but that couldn't stop the match from being one of those typically-entertaining car crashes the Attitude Era was known for.

In the 8 May 2000 Observer, it was said that the Raw over-run grew the 8.23 number to a scary 9.10. The WWF would make a habit of borrowing time from other shows on the schedule to spike ratings when they were supposed to be off the air.
