10 Hilarious Times WWE Stars Parodied Other Wrestlers
9. Alberto Del Rio And Ricardo Rodriguez Impersonating The Real Americans
In early 2013, Jack Swagger won an Elimination Chamber match to become the #1 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. Given his stance as a 'Real American' alongside racist, old fashioned manager Zeb Colter, there was already plenty of ammunition for a feud with the champion, Alberto Del Rio, and his announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez. Swagger and Colter repeatedly blasted the ignorance of America letting immigrants "sneak across" the border, in an obvious shot at Del Rio and Rodriguez's Mexican heritage. The weeks leading up to the title bout saw Swagger repeatedly attack them both, even breaking Rodriguez's ankle at one point. But it was when the Mexican pair decided to play a game of dress up on March 8th that really made the feud more memorable. Rodriguez donned a fat suit to portray Colter, while Del Rio's ludicrous blonde wig and boneheaded repetitions of Swagger's catchphrase "We the people" really struck a chord with the audience, who were tired of the Republican, overly-patriotic ways of the Real Americans. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc5SgWxcksA The match at Wrestlemania ended up seeing Del Rio retain the title, before turning heel in the following weeks. He and Rodriguez were split up soon after, and both men have been released from the WWE in the last few months. It's unfortunate, as the pair were great together, and their impersonations in this rivalry could have provided much better comic relief than token-comedy performers like Los Matadores and Hornswoggle.
