This is the most fascinating American pay-per-view match in years.

The above isn't meant as fawning praise of the build, which has oscillated between riveting whenever Jon Moxley has been at the wheel and harmfully zany on Omega's end, but as a statement on how alien this stipulation is to the mainstream wrestling scene in 2021. An Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch in the spirit of Atsushi Onita and Terry Funk, in AEW.

Expect a drastically different beast to Moxley and Omega's Lights Out match. If they follow the Funk/Omega blueprint, and most signs suggest they will, this will be a match emphasising spectacle and the dreadful threat of the deathmatch spots, built through constant teases and swerves, building up to the big, final explosion. They'll likely go for this approach over violence porn.

Or maybe they'll just do violence porn. Who knows!

Either way, this may be the final AEW stop on Moxley's pre-paternity tour. He has an IWGP United States Championship deposit before departing, but all signs point to time off as Renee Paquette enters the final stage of her pregnancy. Besides, Kenny's reign is still in its infancy. It feels too early.
