If someone had told you back in 2010 that a future SummerSlam event would feature a match between 'The King of Strong Style' Shinsuke Nakamura and 'The Charismatic Enigma' Jeff Hardy, you'd have immediately assumed that it must have been in the main event spot of that year's summer spectacle.

I mean, it's bloody Nakamura and Hardy!

Despite that being the case, the pair were plonked in the mid-card and battled over the U.S. title on the show.

At the end of the day, this wasn't the Jeff Hardy or even the Nakamura of old. This Nak wasn't fully throwing himself into his knee strikes or making you shudder at each sickening hit. Hardy on the other hand, had become a shell of his former self and looked as though his body could shatter at any given moment.

Had this war between two of the most distinct characters WWE have ever been spoilt with took place when Nak and Hardy were both in their heydays in the early 2010s, something quite special could have become a reality.

We'll always have SummerSlam 2018, but it'll always act as a reminder of what could have been if the rival's were still in their prime.
