10 Huge Wrestling Matches That Were Given Away On Free TV
10. Booker T vs Lance Storm - WCW World Heavyweight Championship - Nitro, August 7th, 2000
As most of WCW's other decent Cruiserweight and mid-card wrestlers had moved on and defected to the WWF by late 2000, Lance Storm received a monstrous push in an angle which saw him hold the Cruiserweight Title, the United States Championship, and the Hardcore Championship simultaneously - all of which he renamed to suit his Canadian heritage. Due to his continued domination of other leagues, Lance was eventually given a WCW World Heavyweight Championship match on Nitro. The match was big not only because the title was on the line, but it was a match the fans were actually behind due to the intense amount of heat Storm had been getting. Storm vs Booker was a genuinely exciting, decent and well-booked match compared to any of the lazy, awful recycled match-ups WCW were pushing on PPV in 2000. It could have aired on PPV with the right promotion, given that it was certainly more entertaining than Booker vs Jarrett, or Booker vs Nash, which were the two main event matches on the next two PPVs. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2tgc1_booker-t-vs-lance-storm-wcw-title_sport While the scale and quality of this match are seldom appreciated due to the awful state of WCW in 2000, it was pretty big compared to anything else happening on Nitro at the time which was compromised mostly of nonsense comedy segments, stupid angles and constant disqualifications.
