When Brock Lesnar’s familiar ‘Next Big Thing’ theme hit the American Airlines Arena on the Raw after WrestleMania XXVIII, fans went wild with excitement. In the 8 long years Lesnar stepped away from the ring, he stepped into the Octagon for UFC and became a mainstream star. Brock delivered a devastating F5 on John Cena that night, and went on to have a thrilling Extreme Rules match with him later that month.

The only issue to Lesnar’s return was he was dealt with cutting promos, an art he wasn’t keen on delving back into. Plus WWE only had Lesnar signed to a unique part time contract, and needed to advance storylines without him being a regular feature on TV. This all led to the return of Brock’s former manager Paul Heyman returning to the company after 6 years away when he hugely fell out of favour with Vince McMahon over the return of ECW.

Heyman marched to the ring on Raw a month after Lesnar returned to the surprise of fans and wrestlers alike and cut a promo on behalf of Lesnar that put near the entire locker room to shame. This was the start of a beautiful relationship where Lesnar ruled the decade, with Heyman in tow hyping him up as the “reigning, defending, undisputed WWE Heavyweight Champion of the World.”
