After a lengthy sabbatical post Survivor Series 2003 and years spent as ‘Big Evil’ and ‘The American Bad Ass’, The Undertaker was persuaded by Vince McMahon and creative to roll back his eyes once more and return as ‘The Phenom’ for WrestleMania XX.

At Survivor Series, Kane beat down and buried Undertaker alive to close the show. Months later, the build-up to The Dead Man’s return at WrestleMania XX was regularly teased on episodes of Raw, with paranormal happenings spooking and scaring The Big Red Machine.

Undertaker strongly felt Paul Bearer should be by his side for his WrestleMania match against Kane, having played such a big part as his manager and mentor in his early days with the company. So to complete the metamorphosis, WWE quietly contacted Paul Bearer about returning to the company to manage Undertaker once again. They wanted him so much they went as far as paying for gastric bypass surgery for him, with Bearer having gained a considerable amount of weight in his time spent away from WWE.

It was worth it though. Fans popped big when they first heard Bearer’s classic “Oooh YES!” at WrestleMania XX to signify his and The Phenom’s return.
