Heath Slater took weekly beatings from a legend before also being abused by a group of them at Raw 1000. Slater managed to get and keep himself over as a result of the angle but in 2015, The Ascension weren't so malleable.

They were absolutely obliterated by the New World Order, The APA and The New Age Outlaws seemingly just to entertain the legends in the ring dishing out the whipping. Despite a phenomenally successful run on NXT, Konnor and Viktor were dead on arrival on the main roster - the nostalgic gang attack was merely heaping dirt on their shallow graves.

The Revival are different gravy. Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder opened themselves up to much of the same last week, brushing aside Raw's history-making duos to proclaim themselves the new kings of the ring. After a year plagued with injuries and false starts, it gave ardent NXT followers another sinking feeling, but maybe WWE will subvert the trope this time around?

A ring filled with legends having a lovely time would be perfect target practice for Dawson and Dash, with Shatter Machines on a host of oldies being perfect fodder for a fresh start on the main roster. Hopefully WWE take this chance rather than reverting to type.
