WWE have often allowed the Royal Rumble to promote itself as a pay-per-view, but in an era where buyrates flit between obsolete and irrelevant for those still without the Network, there's never been a time more suitable to throw promotional weight behind a celebration of Monday Night Raw instead.

In 2008, the company were acutely aware of this. Switching to high definition broadcasting in January and keen to get on with building all the major angles for that year's Rumble, the company presented Raw XV a month shy of the actual birth month in December.

Such hasn't been the case a decade on, with the organisation entrenched in videos, celebrations and returns of Raw's rich history taking precedence over the Rumble. With potentially the most eyes on the flagship show literally in years, the company will hopefully utilise returnees to either enter (or put over) the 30-person wars.

Trish Stratus, for example, entering the first ever Women's Royal Rumble would be a blockbuster announcement with just six days remaining, as would the potential pay-per-view return of the year's first major wrestling draw...
