10 Hypothetical WWE Signings (And Whether They'd Have Succeeded Or Failed)
5. Jushin Liger (Pre-NXT Debut)
Although it was exciting to see Liger wrestle in a WWE ring at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, his appearance makes one wonder what WWE would’ve been like if he had somehow signed with WWE for on a more regular basis.
After all, Jushin Liger is a legendary and innovative cruiserweight known the world over, and is one of the most revolutionary wrestlers of all time. Nothing stopped him from achieving his dream; not his relatively-diminutive stature, not starvation in Mexico, not even a brain tumour.
Success or Failure in WWE: Success*
Liger has an image appeal that transcends language barriers. He’s a living, breathing superhero that flies through the air and puts on amazing matches on a regular basis. This, coupled with his experience working with many WWE signees from WCW, would’ve led to many outstanding contests on SmackDown had he signed in the early 2000s.
Of course, this success would only work if WWE would get a hold of the rights to the Jushin Liger name and appearance. Without the rights to that gimmick, Liger couldn't possibly have wrestled for WWE on a full-time basis, especially since WWE’s management has a penchant for trademarking literally everything they produce.
That said, Liger would’ve been a huge draw for WWE, but it all would’ve depended on how well they treated him, and whether he could perform in his own style.
