3. Shawn Michaels Wins His First WWE Title (WrestleMania 12)
Shawn Michaels was a tag team wrestler that decided to branch out on his own and tried to strut his way to legitimacy in WWE. That was likely the popular theory behind The Heartbreak Kid's transformation into a singles star, as some fans dismissed him as just another cocky heel. However, the swagger and braggadocio were merely window dressing for the amazing performer that lay just underneath. Shawn Michaels was more than just another tag team guy, he was the future of the company. Of course, the only way to prove that was by getting in the ring and getting the job done. That is exactly what he did and WWE fans witnessed it all. Shawn fought his way up, earning his stripes through one feud after another. Slowly but surely, his ability in the ring and the dedication to his craft began to shine through and soon no one could deny he was on his way to being something very special in the business. His WWE Championship win at WrestleMania XII was not only one of the greatest moments of his career, it was also used as the blueprint for every feelgood story that would follow. Watching Shawn embrace the title while Vince McMahon uttered the words "the boyhood dream has come true" remains one of the most iconic and most memorable moments in Mania history.
