10 Images Showcasing The Precise Moments When WWE Careers Ended

2. Marc Mero Repeatedly Losing To Sable

Marc Mero was supposed to be a huge star in WWE, but his career there lasted only about three years because his (now ex) wife Sable ended up becoming a much bigger star than him. For the first year or so, Sable was just in the background during Mero's matches. But towards the end of 1997 and into 1998, she became a huge star with Mero becoming increasingly jealous and turning heel. They ended their on-screen allegiance, which led to Sable having matches against Mero's new valet Jacqueline, but she also competed against Mero as well. On the May 11, 1998 edition of Raw, Sable dropped Mero with a Sable Bomb to a huge reaction. That was pretty much the end of Mero as a viable singles wrestler. By spring 99, he was out of WWE never to return again. In an interesting Mero note, Steve Austin and Mick Foley have both discussed how all three of them were signed at around the same time. Vince McMahon saw Mero as the bigger star because he was more flamboyant and had a great physique. Mero was signed for considerably more than Foley and Austin, believe it or not. As it turned out, Vince signed two Hall of Famers and a guy who was overshadowed by his wife and then faded into obscurity.
