10 Images Showcasing The Precise Moments When WWE Careers Ended

3. Hawk's Fall Off The Titantron On Raw

The Legion of Doom (or Road Warriors to some) are one of the best tag teams in wrestling history. The thought of WWE booking them as a joke may seem ridiculous given their legendary status, but that's what happened in 1998. Instead of using them as a veteran team that they can use to help younger teams, WWE chose to present a storyline where Hawk's alcohol and drug issues invaded the workplace. That led to a big angle on November 16, 1998 during a tag match with Animal and new tag team partner Droz. While the match was in progress, Hawk climbed up the side of the giant Titantron. The show actually went to break while he was on top of the set, but then they came back and things went downhill fast. They teased that Hawk was going to jump to his death, so the Road Warriors' manager Paul Ellering convinced him not to jump. Droz climbed up to talk to him, which was a source of conflict because Hawk didn't like that Droz was teaming with Animal. Droz tried to help him, but ended up 'accidentally' knocking Hawk off the Titantron. What was the payoff? There really wasn't anything that was worthwhile aside from doing it as a way to reunite Hawk and Animal. It was stupid that they would do this to a guy like Hawk, who battled addiction issues for many years. That's the kind of "shock TV" that WWE liked to do in the Attitude Era and while it certainly got people talking, it also effectively ended Hawk's WWE career. Sadly, the Legion of Doom never returned to the levels of glory they were at before and Hawk passed away five years later.
