10 Important Decisions AEW Have To Make
9. Establish Or Obtain?
Forever plaguing WWE’s competition is how to approach signing talent. Obtaining wrestlers who are big names and draw well seems like an obvious business move. But then you can overdo it like TNA or overspend like WCW. This is the unforgivable balance that AEW are going to have to really capitalize on.
What they don’t need to do is bring in someone like a Goldberg to take away TV time and hog up valuable contract money. Just because his name carries worth, doesn’t mean his impact will. But when you have calculated signings like Moxley and perhaps Punk, those can go down as huge wins. But even that can only be done so often before you start to question whether AEW can establish their own stars.
MJF is a perfect example of someone who AEW can build themselves and get over through his abilities alone. But if you keep bringing in too many stars, it'll water down the momentum of guys such as him. It is all about balancing things out so that neither feels ignored. AEW has gotten this right so far, but it needs to keep the mentality of establishing talent over obtaining it. But that may be a little different outside of the ring.
