After Double or Nothing, there was a clear de-escalation of importance in the events that followed. Fyter Fest and Fight for the Fallen both had a smaller event feel and some fans were put off by that. But this may be just the right formula for them going forward.

Currently, AEW may not have the capacity to pull off a full blockbuster pay-per-view event every month. So why force it to happen just to compete with WWE’s event total? Instead, they can stick to a bimonthly or trimonthly approach and let the television build these events. Maybe have some smaller events along the way but offered for free to stream. This allows AEW to still feel like they’re delivering on monthly shows, whilst making the bigger programs feel that much more important.

How often they run blockbuster events can really change the image of how those are perceived. Rather than feeling like AEW is playing catch up to WWE’s events, the months AEW goes big will feel like the bigger deal. Anticipation and build up are a powerful tool in the wrestling industry, and one AEW needs to wield well in their war. And with Dave Meltzer reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that they plan to do around 100 to 120 shows, this could very well be the plan already in place.
