10 Important Steps In Goldberg's Evolution

2. Winning The World Heavyweight Title

After feuds against The Rock and Chris Jericho, it made sense that Goldberg would target Triple H and the World Heavyweight Title. Oddly, one of Bill's old WCW opponents, Scott Steiner had flopped against 'The Game' earlier in 2003. There were slight worries that Goldberg would follow suit, but the man actually had some entertaining clashes with Triple H throughout the year. Appearing as part of the Elimination Chamber match at SummerSlam, Goldberg would finally collide with Triple H one-on-one at Unforgiven in September. In the same match, Goldberg's career was put on the line, which admittedly made it fairly obvious that he was going to win the title. There was mileage out of Goldberg chasing the belt, but he'd win the title during the first Pay-Per-View singles match between the duo. Due to aesthetic similarities between the World Heavyweight Title and the 'Big Gold Belt' used in WCW, many fans were happy to see Goldberg as champion. The title reign didn't last long, Triple H regained the strap at Armageddon in December. This would be Goldberg's only run with a title in WWE.
