10 Important Steps In Kane's WWE Evolution

7. Humanised By Tori/X-Pac Alliance

By late-1998, Kane had already become an established member of the WWF roster. Looking to open up the man's character and make him more diverse, the creative team booked Kane to get a love interest. Tori was the woman in question, and the relationship was there to try and make the scary 'Big Red Machine' more human. Around the same time, Kane formed a tag-team with X-Pac. Clearly, both were wildly different characters, but they worked well together as an odd couple tandem. During his association with X-Pac and Tori, Kane uttered his very first words. Previously, the character didn't talk, and it had been explained that a fire set by The Undertaker had badly ruined his vocal cords. Using a special voice box to aid him, Kane's first words were, 'Suck It'. This was the catchphrase of D-Generation X, although Kane was never officially a member. Eventually, X-Pac turned on his partner, stealing his girl and starting a feud between the pair. Overall, the attempt to make Kane easier to identify with was successful.
