10 Incredibly Dissatisfying WWE World Title Wins

5. Alberto Del Rio (vs. CM Punk - SummerSlam 2011)

The whole idea behind the Money In The Bank cash-ins is that it's supposed to be surprising. There's nothing wrong with that premise, but it has on occasion came back to bite WWE. Never was this more true than at SummerSlam 2011, as the company dropped the ball on the whole 'CM Punk holding WWE hostage' angle. After all that had happened, Alberto Del Rio's WWE Title win felt like a letdown for fans. It was shocking, yes, but there was little payoff for the CM Punk situation fans had been following. The infamous shoot promo Punk delivered that Summer was already forgotten, and the whole situation was confusing. Even Kevin Nash became involved, attacking Punk after his match with John Cena. CM Punk had actually defeated Cena in the main event of the show. This was after a lengthy story during which Punk had threatened to leave WWE with the top title. In his absence, another title was created, one won by Cena. This meant the SummerSlam bout was a 'Title vs. Title' showdown, and Del Rio's inclusion only convoluted proceedings.
