10 Incredibly Dumb Things That Happen In WWE Every Year

4. Sign Pointing

WWE Thanksgiving Tradition

Each year, the WrestleMania sign seemingly gets bigger, and as the Laws of Giant-Sign-Pointing suggest, Royal Rumble winners must absolutely call out its luminous, symbolic glory for a proportionate (and ever-growing) length of time.

WWE superstars haven't always pointed at the sign, yet the tradition took off in the early 2000s. On his podcast in March of 2018, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Vince Russo weren't quite sure what was up with the annual gesture either. Russo was somewhat reluctant on the matter, failing to see why wrestlers pointing at signs was important in the first place. 'The Rattlesnake,' on the other hand, was quick to say it drove him nuts when he saw superstars pointing, especially since he felt WrestleMania wasn't an event that needed to be shoehorned in.

What was especially odd about the tradition was that Triple H claimed WWE talent did not receive direct instructions to point at the sign (after CM Punk told Samoa Joe to point because "...they really like that.").

Whatever the case, pointing at the WrestleMania sign rarely comes off as natural and, by and large, feels awkward. One moment, there was the thrill of the last competitor winning the Rumble, and then there was a sweaty statue distracted by a sign until closing credits. Worse, sometimes performers didn't even have to win the Royal Rumble to point. Just ask Triple H and The Undertaker.
