10 Insane Inspirations Behind Famous Wrestling Gimmicks

8. Mordecai Was Inspired By The Seven Deadly Sins

Mordecai was portrayed by Kevin Matthew Fertig - a man who would later go on to portray Kevin Thorn in the revived WWE version of ECW - and he was playing the part of a religious Zealot-type character who claimed to be on a crusade to rid the world of sin. He would often condemn his opponents and the audience for their sins as well. He, in turn, was based on one of Fertig's gimmicks from earlier in his career - a character simply called "Seven" - who was based on the seven deadly sins from the bible, which are gluttony, greed, sloth, envy, wrath, pride and lust, of course. It was a decent gimmick, but Fertig struggled to make it work on the big stage - as he did with Kevin Thorn - and it didn't really last very long.
