10 Insane Things You Missed When You Stopped Watching NXT

5. And You Thought The Main Roster Women's Tag Titles Meant Nothing

In 2021, as is tradition, NXT presented the Dusty Cup.

This time, the winners in the women's tournament were rewarded with an opportunity to contend for the main roster Women's World Tag Team Titles. The tournament was won by Raquel González and Dakota Kai, but, when they fought for the titles held by Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax on March 3 (who incidentally should have stayed around in WWE's training facility for rather a lot longer), "WWE Official" Adam Pearce brought out a referee and made them call the match in the champion's favour, as Kai was trapped in a submission, to ensure the titles would remain main roster property.

This infuriated William Regal, who introduced NXT-specific titles as a solution.

He awarded them to Kai and González on March 10, 2021 for winning the Dusty Cup, who were then defeated by Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart.

On March 10, 2021.

They could not have looked like bigger f*cking geeks, and by extension, every team they defeated looked like absolute geeks too.

Well, they could have looked like bigger geeks, and actually did: González in a backstage interview actually bragged about being the first-ever NXT Women's Tag Team Champions, on March 10, 2021, as if she hadn't just enjoyed one of the worst reigns ever.
