10 Intellectual Wrestling Gimmicks (With Varying Levels Of Success)

9. Damien Sandow

The Genius
WWE.com

Although 'The Intellectual Savior of the Masses' won the crowd over with his masterful stunt work for The Miz -- and sometimes, those glorious cartwheels in pink tights -- he was never able to apply his brilliance and shatter WWE's glass ceiling.

He did, however, at least grow smart enough to stop wrestling as "Idol Stevens".

One of the few men to cash in Money in the Bank and fail, Sandow fell into the trap of being too entertaining for his own good and pigeonholing himself as a comedy geek. His Mizdow routine should have led to a breakout mid-card role, but instead, he became Macho Mandow and palled around with Axelmania. Until Hulk Hogan screwed the whole deal for them by being a racist sh*tbird.

Thanks Hulk!

He would go on to make a brief splash in WCPW and then enjoy an unimpressive run in TNA/Impact before taking a break from wrestling entirely. Time will tell if that was another smart move.
