10 Issues WWE Needs To Address In 2022
3. Roman Reigns
Is the great Roman Reigns reinvention still working? Well, to at least some extent, yes. He’s consistently the most interesting part of SmackDown, has had some of the finer matches in 2021 with Bryan, Edge, Cesaro, and has a grip on his character like few others in the company. They’re building towards something with Brock Lesnar which, if not exactly fresh, could be hard-hitting fun.
But then what? No one particularly wants to see Brock with the belt once again, after the past couple of part-time shifts which left a sour taste. If not Brock, then who? As noted, WWE isn’t exactly well stocked with up and coming babyfaces ready for that final step into the big time.
What’s more, it’s clearer than ever that WWE is absolutely certain Reigns is the present and future of the business. It’s easy to believe that, as far as the office is concerned, so long as Roman drapes the big blue belt across his sculpted shoulders, all is well in the world.
Whether or not Reigns has already grown stale is a matter of personal presence. What’s hard to deny is that his matches, entertaining though they usually are, tend to follow a formula. We’ve already sacrificed plenty of stars at his altar, with no sign of a hero to save the day.
