10 Issues WWE Needs To Address In 2022
All's not well at Titan Towers.
From one perspective, WWE is in rude health.
They’re making money hand over fist, have an enviable TV deal, and have even figured out how to put on a Saudi show that doesn’t totally suck. They’ve had a few good-to-great matches in 2021, own some undeniably great talent, and for the time being remain the unquestionable top company in the business.
From another perspective, though, is it ever chaotic over at Titan Towers. 2021 has continued the trend of dodgy TV content, questionable booking decisions, and often downright despicable treatment of the cornerstone of their business, the talent. With other viable options on the wrestling landscape, there are problems in WWE’s strategy that need to be addressed.
Whether these are issues at the heart of the business itself or just matters that need to be ironed out in order to make the product less of a drag to watch, WWE would be well advised to take the holiday period to reflect on the year gone by, and consider what might have been done differently.
It being WWE, they’ll likely continue on the same stubborn path, but hopefully Vince will be visited by three wrestling ghosts this December and finally change his ways...
10. The Tag Division
It’s no secret that Vince McMahon doesn’t care much for tag team wrestling, and indeed it’s been a long old while since the division had any kind of strength in depth. Things have sunk to such a depth of late, though, that we’re at a breaking point.
WWE isn’t overflowing with talented teams, but at the moment, unless you’re an Uso, a New Day member, or RK-Bro, you’re not getting so much as a sniff. These three teams are great, but the division could be so much more: Alpha Academy, The Dirty Dawgs, the Mysterios, the Street Profits - none of these teams are getting regular shine.
There’s also WWE’s penchant for splitting up tag teams. Indeed one of the above - RK-Bro - are presumably built to combust sooner or later. And things are worse still for the women, where the belts can disappear off TV for weeks at a time and ad hoc teams are created and dropped from minute to minute.
If Vince doesn’t want to get involved with the tag division, could he not hand it over to someone else? We’re not expecting the heyday of the early ‘00s to return, but we can’t keep watching RK-Bro versus Styles and Omos for much longer.
