10 Japanese Wrestlers You Must See Before You Die

5. Manami Toyota

Why you must watch her: She€™s literally the best women€™s wrestler ever. From the late 1980s to the mid-1990s, Toyota was literally the best women€™s wrestler on earth. She could do anything and everything: execute painful-looking submission holds, fly around and out of the ring like a cruiserweight, strike her opponents with hard strikes, and use a devastating array of Suplexes with an unmatched grace and precision. Because of her immense skill, Toyota was responsible for ushering in another golden age of women€™s wrestling in Japan, during which she wrestled in 60-minute matches against her archrivals and withstood an unbelievable amount of punishment. It was in her matches that wrestling fans truly began to see how women could be equal to men in a sport that€™s centered primarily on male performers. Though she isn€™t known that much outside of Japan, Toyota€™s legendary matches make her a truly worthwhile wrestler to watch.
