7. Shawn Michaels’ Collapse

In a seemingly routine outing on Raw in November of 1995, Shawn Michaels shockingly collapsed before the conclusion of his match with Owen Hart.

After tossing Owen out of the ring, and in the midst of his signature taunts, Michaels paused to raise a hand to his head before passing out in a heap.

Again, McMahon was great on commentary here, leaving an awkwardly long pause before muttering “go to black” and rolling into a commercial. Upon returning to the action, McMahon was in the ring alongside medical staff and oxygen tanks, with Michaels still lying motionless

Add in the fact that he’d been jumped by a guy in a bar in New York just a few weeks prior, and there was genuine concern that something was seriously wrong with Shawn.

In reality, the injury had been feigned so that Michaels could take some time off to heal, but no one knew that at the time. He’d soon make a triumphant return at the 1996 Royal Rumble before going on to taste victory at WrestleMania, in a moment made even more special by the drama of this fabricated injury angle.
