3. Randy Orton - WrestleMania 25
Following WrestleMania 18, WWE hit a pretty good run of meaningful and excellent main events. But then came WrestleMania 25 and Randy Orton. He'd been a Triple H project from 2003 onwards, with Vince and Stephanie also being marks for him. Hunter had a grand vision of one day facing his student at WrestleMania. The only problem was, as sound as Orton was in the ring, as good as he was on the mic, as much as he had the look... he just didn't stack up as a WrestleMania main event act. Fans didn't like the pretty boy babyface, and found him boring as a heel. But what really made him a lame Mania main eventer, was the fact he was a heel going against a face champion. When Triple H then defeated him at Mania, the whole feud felt pointless. Add in the dumb story about Orton's psychiatric issues, and the fact the match was a normal one on one bout despite the violent build, it just felt so disappointing. Also not helping matters was the fact that Orton had to follow Shawn Michaels versus The Undertaker, one of the best matches ever. With a cold build and loss, he now ranks as one of the lamest Mania main eventers ever.
