10 Last-Minute WWE Backlash 2016 Rumors You Need To Know
1. John Cena Will NOT Be There
The big question for Backlash seems to be what, if anything, John Cena will do at the show. The 15-time world champion hasn't been seen since suffering a loss to AJ Styles at SummerSlam (and leaving his "Never give up" armband in the ring afterwards).
Many thought Cena was leaving to film American Grit, but that hasn't started yet - and in fact, he's been on the road with WWE, wrestling dark matches after Raw and Smackdown. So could he be at the Pay-Per-View on Sunday?
He could be, but he won't be. If Cena appears on Sunday, he'll have to prevent AJ Styles from becoming WWE World Champion - but that'll take the focus off of Styles and Ambrose and put it straight back to Styles versus Cena. As good as their last match was, there's no point in doing it again unless it's for the title. If Cena costs Styles the match and Styles wins next month, Cena will be gone by the time they can wrestle one more time.
The simpler solution is that Cena stays off the show altogether.
