10 Last-Minute WWE Backlash 2017 Rumours You Need To Know
4. Jinder Mahal Wins The WWE Championship
April 18, 2017 may go down as the best day in Jinder Mahal's WWE career. On that Tuesday's episode of Smackdown, Mahal won a six-pack challenge to be declared the number one contender to the WWE Championship and was revamped as a main-event heel.
So now that Mahal's title match is here, does he actually stand a chance of dethroning Randy Orton? Absolutely. Orton is incredibly weak as a champion and WWE has become infamous as of late for it's lack of long-term planning, so it's perfectly possible that by the time you read this article, Smackdown's creative team still won't have decided who's going over in the Backlash title match.
All of that said, it still seems unlikely like Mahal will actually unseat Orton when he's so untested as a main-event commodity. Plus, they already did an angle where Mahal stole the belt from Orton and did a photo shoot with it, so that makes it seem like he won't be doing another photo shoot so soon. While Mahal could definitely win, Orton - as boring as he is - still seems to be the more feasible outcome.
