10 Last-Minute WWE Backlash 2017 Rumours You Need To Know
5. Shinsuke Nakamura's Debut Gets Fumbled
Perhaps the biggest overall draw for Backlash is that the show will feature the main-roster in-ring debut of Shinsuke Nakamura, formerly one of the top pro wrestling stars in Japan. Nakamura arrived in NXT last year, and since then, he's gained a fan following that's made it apparent that he can be a huge star in the U.S.
Unfortunately, for that to materialize, he needs to be booked properly by WWE in an era when they can't even do that for their chosen top star. In fact, since Nakamura started showing up on Smackdown (just after WrestleMania), fans have already started to worry that he's been exposed - he's cut promos and engaged in antics with Dolph Ziggler when his in-ring performances are his true strength.
It's possible that the trend could continue on Sunday, with Nakamura's debut underwhelming audiences. Even in NXT, he was often forced to take too much heat in short matches, bringing down the overall quality of the bouts - such a showing on Sunday could really hurt Nakamura. Hopefully, he and Dolph are at their best and are given the opportunity to kick off "The King of Strong Style's" career with a bang.
