The New Day’s reign as WWE Tag Team Champions rumbles on, and after almost 400 days with the belts, they’re just a few months away from toppling Demolition’s record 478-day title reign. It looked for a while that Xavier Woods, Big E, and Kofi Kingston were all-set to break the record, but the tables have turned, and all signs point towards them losing to Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows at Clash of Champions.

It’s the right time to make the switch. Gallows and Anderson have made several failed attempts at becoming champions already, and a further loss will see him hit an all-time low on Raw’s tag team totem poll. Plagued by terrible comedy angles since their debut, the former Bullet Club members are in dire need of credibility, and ending The New Day’s lengthy reign will do just that.

The New Day, meanwhile, have done all they can as champions. There are few teams left for them to face after Gallows and Anderson, and they’ve more than proven themselves as WWE’s premier group. They need a change of circumstances as much as anyone else on the roster, because there’s a real chance of them growing stale if things remain the same much longer. Raw’s tag team needs a pick-me-up, and this is the way to do it.
