thought it would be. Many assumed that his Wellness Policy violation would result in a long spell in the doghouse, but while he’s not competing for the Universal Title, Reigns is still heavily involved in the main event scene. He regularly closes-out Monday Night Raw, and while it could be argued that this helps put the main event spotlight on Rusev, Reigns is usually the one standing tall.

The duo look set to end their bad blood at Clash of Champions, and the latest spoiler reports indicate that Reigns is set to walk away with the belt. If it goes ahead, it’s a move that reeks of mid-2015, when John Cena ended Rusev’s US Title reign and promptly squashed the Bulgarian Brute into oblivion with four consecutive victories. Here’s hoping history doesn’t repeat itself, as it it took Rusev a full year to recover from his Cena-ing.

Would this be a good way to rebuild Reigns, who remains one of the most divisive performers in the company? It’s hard to tell. Rusev is one of the company’s most hated villains, but this has done little to temper Reigns’ negative crowd reactions, and there’s a strong chance he’ll still be rejected as an undercard champion. The best fans can hope for is that Reigns helps rebuild the US belt’s diminished reputation, because let’s be honest, WWE aren’t going to job him out any time soon.
