10 Last-Minute WWE Extreme Rules 2016 Rumors You Need To Know
4. Sami Zayn Becomes Intercontinental Champion, Renews Feud With Kevin Owens
Last month at Extreme Rules, Kevin Owens defeated longtime adversary Sami Zayn in a great contest, then stuck around to do commentary on the Intercontinental Title match between The Miz and Cesaro. Zayn ended up attacking Owens at ringside, and the two brawled into the ring, letting Miz roll up Cesaro for the win.
At Extreme Rules, all four men will compete for the championship. It's sure to be an exciting match - maybe the best of the show - and a decisive winner will help elevate the Intercontinental Title even more than it has been pushed in recent months.
From a booking perspective, Sami Zayn would make the best winner. He's the only man who hasn't already spent months embroiled in the title program, making him a fresh choice. He also needs a important win, as he hasn't really gotten one since coming up to the main roster. Finally, Zayn coming out as champ would let Owens challenge him, continuing the singles program and blowing it off in a huge match.
It should happen, but that doesn't mean it will. Still, I'm betting WWE recognizes the storyline potential there and takes the step.
