10 Last-Minute WWE Payback 2016 Rumors You Need To Know
6. Vince McMahon Revives The Brand Split
Beside the main event storyline, the most anticipated angle for Payback revolves around the future of Raw. Shane McMahon may have lost his bid to take over the show at WrestleMania, but he's been something of a substitute General Manager for the program ever since the show of shows. That hasn't sat well with Stephanie McMahon, and at the PPV, Vince McMahon will pick one of his children to reign supreme.
Naturally, this has refueled months-old speculation that the brand split is returning, with Stephanie (and Triple H) taking charge of one show and Shane piloting the other. Some think it's a virtual certainty that this angle will at least plant the seeds for a dividing of the roster along Raw and Smackdown lines in the future.
I have no problem with a brand split - if handled correctly, I think it could go a long way toward making WWE programming more exciting. That said, there was a split in effect for nine years, and the reasons that the company got rid of it (a shrinking roster and a lack of interest in Smackdown) haven't really changed. It is possible that WWE is planning a split, but I'll believe it when I see.
