10 Least Effective WWE World Champions Ever
1. Kevin Owens
Which brings us to the longest reigning WWE Universal Champion of all time, Kevin Owens. KO may have been celebrating at the end of RAW, but the fact that his buddy Chris Jericho dethroned Roman Reigns as United States Champion makes Owens even less likely to survive Reigns at the Royal Rumble. In fact, WWE has booked Owens so poorly since winning the title that The Prizefighter must thank his lucky stars that Reigns is feuding with Braun Strowman right now.
Owens was handed the title on a silver platter by Triple H, and as a result has suffered from the same syndrome his buddy Y2J felt in 2001. Owens may be the man holding the title, but he is nowhere near the most important man on the show. He is merely a stepping stone on Seth Rollins' journey to Triple H and redemption, as well as being a credible heel for Reigns to emasculate on a frequent basis.
Owens has only been able to defend his title so far thanks to the interference of Chris Jericho, and if he manages to do so at the Rumble you can bet your bottom dollar that it'll only be thanks to the interference of Strowman. That clean win over John Cena feels like it happened years ago, and the last nine months has seen WWE pull each and every tooth out of the mouth of, in theory, the number one guy.
Kevin Owens could and would be a fantastic heel champion for WWE. As it is, he is a guy who is presented as though he is several notches below the important people on the show, namely the former members of The Shield and Triple H.
