10 Least Likely WWE Ladder Match Competitors Ever
7. The Undertaker
It took until The Undertaker was nearly twelve years into his WWE career for him to find himself in a ladder match situation. The Deadman was engaged in a mini-feud with Jeff Hardy, with the young risk-taker constantly trying to get one over on the grizzled vet.
After he and his brother Matt attacked 'Taker - then in his American Badass/Big Evil phase - with a ladder, it was decided that the two would settle the score in a ladder match for the Undisputed Title in the main event of the Jul 1st 2002 episode of Raw.
More than a simple stunt show, this one told a great story and had a lot of drama, with The Phenom just wailing on Jeff, breaking down his body by using the ladder as a weapon until the Charismatic Enigma found it within himself to come back. It looked at one point like the upset might happen, but it was thwarted courtesy of a chokeslam from the top of the ladder.
That was the last real ladder match that Undertaker had until One Night Stand 2008, where he found himself in a TLC top-liner opposite perennial rival Edge. Now this one was a stunt show, with both men taking far more punishment than they're knackered bodies should been subject to to.
In the end, it was The Undertaker who took the worst of it, taking the BIG bump from the top of the ladder, to the outside of the ring through four tables. It was insane, the kind of thing a young buck would do to get noticed, not a well-respected veteran who already had plenty of miles on the clock.
But 'Taker does nothing if not lead by example and, although it would have at one point seemed a bit weird seeing him in a ladder match, he looked completely at home and gave it his all for the fans. You can't ask for much more than that.
