There's been enough online discussion of Paige's litany of personal problems that it feels cruel to keep dragging them up, but unfortunately, they do represent a legitimate barrier to success. Despite her in-ring ability likely being unaffected, having been the focus of multiple media scandals for a variety of issues is something that inevitably takes its toll.

WWE have already joked about these issues multiple times in her absence. When she does return, it's going to be a tough battle to get audiences and critics to remain focused on what happens in the ring rather than in her personal life. The fact that it's taken so long for her to make her comeback is a worrying sign.

WWE doesn't love to court controversy as it did in years gone by, and whether it's fair or not, that's exactly what Paige represents right now. Combined with the fact that WWE now has a plethora of excellent female athletes at their disposal, meaning that Paige is no longer as indispensable to the women's division as she once was, it's easy to see her getting left by the wayside upon her return.
