This one is a mystery that will never be solved. Roddy Piper was one of the most infamous and controversial wrestlers in WWE history. He is a genuine legend, a fantastic performer, and the star of the greatest movie ever to have a wrestler in the lead role, John Carpenter’s They Live. That role should have made him a champion alone.
Alas Piper was to be one of Hogan’s most dashed opponents. Roddy was one of the first major wrestlers to challenge the legendary movement known as Hulkamania, but the power of that benevolent force proved too strong for Piper time and time again.
If his had been any nemesis other than Hogan, you could bet Roddy would have had him for breakfast. Then again, so hated was the Hot Rod that if he were ever to win a belt fans the world over would have lain a path of destruction that would make Superman run for cover. Probably best that Vince didn’t book it that way.
