10 Legendary Wrestlers Who Never Won A Major World Title
3. Ted DiBiase
Speaking of bad guys never getting a real crack at the title, Ted DiBiase never won a world title. He brought one. That’s a bad thing to do from a very bad man.
Back in the late 80’s DiBiase was perhaps the biggest bad guy in all of wrestling, and unlike Jake The Snake (or Roddy Piper) no one was cheering him.
His arrogant, money grubbing ways and sadistic schemes made Mr. Burns look like a rank amateur. He had a look that had to cost a lot of money to look that cheap, and a laugh that made you think he had some poor gal tied to a set of train tracks.
In 1988 so base was The Million Dollar Man in his pursuit for wrestling’s ultimate prize that he hired an Earl Hebner lookalike to impersonate the infamous referee, and have Andre The Giant win the title on his behalf. His plan was thwarted though by, then WWE President, Jack Tunney.
Jack Tunney stripped him of the title he paid Andre to hand over to him, thus stripping him of his only claim to a major championship. He did create the “Million Dollar Championship” in ’89 – complete with a belt that cost $125,000 to make – but that isn’t a major championship and the Million Dollar Man knows it.
