10 Most Legendary Wrestling Commentators Of All Time

1. Jim Ross

If there was ever an heir apparent to Gordon Solie, it would absolutely be Jim Ross. His love and passion for this business is second to none, which he has showcased with his last 40 years in the industry. Having worked for WCW, NWA Mid-South and of course WWE, JR comes from the ultimate in old-school and his commentary shows the road taken. His pedigree is rooted in the old-school mentality, with a focus on in-ring narrative that is made much bigger with the athletes involved. JR is often referred to as the John Madden of wrestling, a title which is incredibly accurate. He has an over-the-top style that is often mixed with tradition, a very real respect for the opportunity to be in the business he loves. His passion is searing, especially when he was paired with Jerry Lawler and allowed for their on-screen personalities to clash. The duo worked so well together, with Lawler's desire to see the bad guys cheat and JR's flat-out disgust for rule breakers making them an ace team. He deeply loves the business, which bleeds into his commentary. His excitement for the iconic mark out moments, the moments that wrestling fans live for, spreads so quickly. Dusty Rhodes put it perfectly when he said that JR can make you laugh, make you cry, hurt and feel, which is all true. You believe what he's saying so much, because you know that even though pro wrestling is a fictional world, JR believes it in that moment. And if the announcer believes in it, so do you. It all adds up to allow Jim Ross to be named as the greatest wrestling announcer who ever lived. There's certain to be some announcers that we've left off, so sound off in the comments and let's hear which ones are your favorite.
