10 Legends WWE Dumped In Awful Feuds

5. Steve Austin (Michael Cole & Jerry Lawler)

Premise: By 2010, Michael Cole had started to become an insufferable jerk behind the announce desk. Despite being WWE's lead-play-by-play man, he'd show clear bias towards heels, laugh at faces and direct much of his bile at colour commentary counterpart Jerry Lawler.

They'd go on to have a match at 'Mania XXVII, and WWE inserted Steve Austin as the special referee.

Why It Was Awful: Even the mighty 'Stone Cold' couldn't save this tripe.

WWE gave Cole vs. Lawler almost 14 minutes of ring time at WrestleMania when it should've been four-five max. Fans were ready to see the 'King' paste Cole and beat him cleanly, but plans called for the anonymous Raw GM to overrule Austin and reverse the decision so Michael won by DQ.

It was one thing to book such a lame spot for Austin at 'Mania. It was another to force him to stand there and watch Michael f'n Cole "wrestle" for nearly 15 minutes on the biggest show of the year.
