10 Legit Wrestling Injuries That Were Made Into A Storyline
3. Undertaker's Broken Orbital Bone
The Undertaker spent a good portion of the 1990s partnered up with larger than life opposition. From Yokozuna and King Kong Bundy to Giant González and Kamala, 'Taker's early/mid '90s feuds were seemingly always against foes that were lumbersome and difficult to manoeuvre. King Mabel was no different.
When the man who would become Viscera broke The Undertaker's orbital bone on Raw in late '95, the very real injury resulted in a very unusual gimmick modification for 'The Deadman'. With time off not an option due to a drought of headline talent, 'Taker instead returned just weeks later sporting a protective mask.
In true Undertaker fashion, the mask itself was no ordinary protective mask. Instead, the facial shield was made similar to that of The Phantom of the Opera and gave The Undertaker gimmick a fresh coat of paint. The eerie aesthetics of the mask only added to the overall mystique of 'The Phenom', while also furthering the Mabel angle at the same time.
'The Demon of Death Valley' would get his revenge on his attacker at In Your House 5, when he defeated Mabel in a casket match. 'Taker would wear the mask until Royal Rumble '96, when Bret Hart would remove it mid-match during their main event bout for the WWF Championship.
